The axe on the idol

The prophet Ibrahim, who is often called Abraham (pbuh), was around sixteen years old when he began to explain things to people.

He told his father that he and his people should not worship idols and should only worship God. His father became angry with him and told him that he would kill him.

One day his people were all going to go somewhere else for a festival, but Ibrahim (pbuh) said that he was feeling sick and needed to stay at home.

While they were away, he took a big axe and chopped up all of the idols in their temple except the largest one. Then he hung the axe on the large idol’s shoulder and left.

When everyone came home, they asked him if he knew what had happened. He said “Why don’t you ask the big idol, I’m sure he can tell you.”

In this way, Ibrahim (pbuh) showed his people that idols are idle. They couldn’t do anything, and can’t even talk.

He hung the acts on the idol and proved that people should take no notice of idles.
